# Leave Calendar

> The leave calendar is a month-at-a-glance view of who is on leave.

The leave calendar is a month-at-a-glance view of who is on leave. It is the quickest way to spot clashes before approving a request, to plan cover, and to see how a team's time off is distributed across the month. Each leave shows up as a coloured band spanning its dates, labelled with the employee's name and leave type.

**You'll find this at:** `/hr/leave/calendar`

> The calendar shows only the **active business**'s leave. Switch business at the top of the app to see another business's calendar.

## What it shows

By default the calendar shows **approved leave only** — the time off that is actually confirmed. Each entry is an all-day band running from the leave's start date to its end date, titled with the employee's name and the leave type, for example *Jane Doe · Annual Leave*.

Leave types are **colour-coded**. Annual Leave and Sick Leave have fixed colours; every other policy is given a stable colour automatically, so the same type always looks the same. A **legend** beneath the calendar lists the colours for the policies present in the current view.

If there is no approved leave in the visible period, the calendar says so rather than showing an empty grid.

## Moving around

The toolbar lets you:

* **prev / next** — step backwards and forwards.
* **Today** — jump back to the current period.
* **Month / Week / List** — switch between the month grid, a week view, and a list view.

The calendar fetches leave for the **whole visible grid**, including the leading and trailing days of adjacent months that appear in the month view — so a leave that starts in the previous week still shows up. Changing the view or the date range automatically reloads the data.

## Opening a leave

Click any leave band to jump straight to that **request's detail page** (`/hr/leave-requests/:id`), where you can review it or — if it is still pending and you have the permission — approve or reject it. See [Applying for & approving leave](/hr/user/leave/leave-requests).
