Global search
Global search is the fastest way to navigate. Open the search box from the top bar (the “Search entire app…” field) and start typing.📷 Screenshot: The global search box open, showing results grouped under an “Accounting” heading — to be added.
How it works
- Results are grouped by category. Accounting destinations appear under an Accounting heading.
- You can match on titles and keywords — for example typing “COA”, “ledger accounts”, or “general ledger” all surface Chart of Accounts; “P&L”, “income statement”, or “net income” surface Profit & Loss; “receipts” or “accounts payable” surface Accounting Payments.
- Search respects your permissions. A page only appears if you hold the permission that gates it (for instance, Chart of Accounts shows only if you have
accounting-accounts:read). See Accessing Accounting for the permission list. - Use the arrow keys to move through results and Enter to open the highlighted one.
- Beyond static pages, search also looks up some live data — for example your journal entry names — so you can jump straight to a specific journal.
Common accounting search terms
Remember that search operates on the active business’s data — switch the business first if you’re looking for another book’s records.
Quick-create (add records without leaving a form)
When you’re filling in an accounting document and the customer, supplier, or item you need isn’t in the dropdown yet, you don’t have to abandon your work to go and create it. The pickers in Accounting forms support inline quick-create: open the picker, and if your value doesn’t exist, create it on the spot.📷 Screenshot: An invoice line’s customer picker with the inline “create new” quick-create form expanded — to be added.
Where you’ll see it
Quick-create is wired into the main accounting forms, including:- Create Invoice — quick-create a customer, and quick-create items on each line.
- Create Bill — quick-create a supplier, and quick-create items.
- Create Expense and Record Payment — quick-create the contact you need.
- Create Quotation and Disburse Petty Cash — the same inline picker behaviour.
What each quick-create captures
Whatever you type into the picker is carried into the new record’s name, so creating “Acme Ltd” while searching for it takes one step. Once created, the new customer/supplier/item is immediately selected in the form and available everywhere else in that business’s book.
Quick-create makes a real record — a new customer here is the same customer you’ll later see under Customers & Vendors (/accounting/contacts). It is not a throwaway entry.
