A holiday list records the public holidays and weekly off-days that apply to your employees. It matters beyond the calendar: holidays and weekly offs determine how many working days a leave application actually consumes, and they feed into how payroll counts paid days. Get the holiday list right and your leave deductions and salary day-counts follow. You’ll find this at: /hr/holidays (the lists) and /hr/holidays/:id (a single list)
Holiday lists belong to the active business — confirm the business switcher before creating or editing one. A list is then assigned to employees’ contracts so the right holidays apply to the right people.

Creating a holiday list

On the Holiday Lists page choose Create Holiday List.

Inside a holiday list

Open a list to see its summary (country, year, weekly offs, holiday count) and two tabs:
  • Holidays — the table of individual holiday dates.
  • Assignments — which employees/contracts the list is assigned to.

Adding holidays

  • Add Holiday — enter a date and a description (e.g. Independence Day) to add a single holiday.
  • Pull Regional Holidays — imports the standard public holidays for the list’s country automatically. Hitaji reports how many it imported and how many were skipped because they already existed.
Each holiday row shows its date, description, and a type badge — Holiday or Weekly Off. Remove a holiday with the bin icon on its row (you’ll be asked to confirm).

Deleting a list

The Delete button removes the entire list along with all its holidays and assignments. This is permanent, so you’re asked to confirm.

How holidays affect leave and payroll

  • Leave day counts — holidays and weekly offs inside a leave application are normally not counted as leave taken, so an employee isn’t charged for time the business was closed anyway. The exact treatment depends on the leave type: a type with Include Holidays as LWP counts holidays inside the application as unpaid leave, and an Optional Leave type may only be taken on dates flagged optional in the list. (These flags are set on the leave type — see Leave types & settings.)
  • Half-days — a half-day cannot be placed on a holiday.
  • Payroll — payroll references the holiday list when working out paid days for a period, so the holidays you record here flow through to salary calculations.
